Rope Access Training - ANSI Z459
The intent of this course is to provide training to eligible candidates in order to meet the criteria for industrial rope access personnel based on OSHA 1910, ANSI/ASSP Z359 and Z459.
The course is designed for working in simple and complex rope access systems.
Objectives:
Rope access provides a safe, cost-effective, and efficient means of accessing structures and geologic features for inspection, maintenance, and construction.
This course is based upon the recognized certification requirements for rope access work. This course is intended for use by rope access personnel whose specific job requires knowledge and skill proficiency in rope access techniques.
Content:
There are two levels of certification available to rope access technicians as required by the ANSI/ASSP Z459 standard.
To be eligible to test at each level, additional requirements may be required. A complete listing of the requirements at each level of certification are available upon request.
This course addresses minimum skills and certification requirements specific to rope access and does not address additional job specific skills (maintenance, construction, inspection). This course sets forth accepted practices for rope access work performed using non metallic synthetic ropes. This course does not apply to emergency response or emergency response training.
To become a SPRAT certified technician, candidates are required to attend additional training and tests assessed by a SPRAT certified Evaluator.

Note: The certification does not test industry-specific skills. Additional evaluation may be required by the employer to verify the rope access technician’s suitability to a specific job.
